What is AIRE 2026 about?
AIRE 2026 places the spotlight on research education and supervision. The programme will explore how supervision and research training are organised, experienced, and developed in master’s and PhD programmes across IN.TUNE institutions. Across the two days, the event will create space to:
- Share concrete practices of supervision and research training in music and the arts
- Reflect on challenges and differing institutional frameworks
- Discuss how responsibilities and roles are shaped and shared
- Explore approaches that connect artistic and academic research with teaching and learning
- Learn from the perspectives of both staff and students, across diverse traditions and contexts
Keynote speaker
We are pleased to welcome Kristina Mariager-Anderson (Danish School of Education, Aarhus University) as keynote speaker for AIRE 2026.
Dates, times and location
- Where: Norwegian Academy of Music (Norges musikkhøgskole), Oslo
- When: Wednesday 8 April 2026 (12:00 noon) to Thursday 9 April 2026 (12:00 noon)

Programme focus and structure
AIRE 2026 is centred on dialogue and shared learning between participants who teach, supervise, and study within research-rich programmes in music and the arts. The programme is being designed to support both big-picture discussion and hands-on exchange of practice, including:
- How supervision is structured within institutions and programmes
- How institutional frameworks enable or constrain research education
- What “good supervision” looks like from student and staff perspectives
- Ways of connecting supervision practice with learning outcomes, research training, and broader educational development
- How artistic and academic research approaches intersect in supervision and research education
A detailed programme will be published closer to the event.
Who should attend?
AIRE 2026 welcomes participants from across the IN.TUNE alliance and is particularly relevant for supervisors and teachers By bringing multiple roles and experiences into the same room, AIRE aims to strengthen shared understanding and inspire improvements that benefit students, supervisors, and institutions alike.
