Learn Finnish Through Arts / Suomea taiteellisen toiminnan kautta

Welcome to study Finnish beyond the classroom! This course is led by artists and language learners who have discovered fun, experimental, and insightful ways to use and learn Finnish. They want to share and develop their methods together with other learners. Linguistic support is provided by Uniarts Finnish teachers Sanna Teerenhovi and Laura Lehtinen.

Course content:

Topic 1: Landmarking words through nature walks by Alyssa Coffin (August)

Topic 2: Creative Wordplay in Finnish language through Zines and Beyond by Devina Boughton (September)

Topic 3: Learning Finnish feels bad sometimes / Suomen opiskelu tuntuu joskus pahalta by Niko Wearden (September-October)

Topic 4: Inventing and playing with compound words by Lola Barraud (October)

See the schedule and detailed description of the course in Uniarts Study Guide.

The course is open to all students and staff members at Uniarts Helsinki. You may participate in only some of the sessions or all of them, according to your schedule and interests. If you participate in all the sessions and complete the assignments, you receive 2 ECTS.

Knowledge of basic greetings and a few common words in Finnish is enough to participate, but more advanced language learners are likely to get more out of the course.
